What Will Business Look Like?

My father came out of college and joined one of the strongest companies in one of the strongest industries: US Steel, the steel industry. I came out of college and joined one of the strongest companies in one of the strongest industries where I chose to live: Springs Mills, the textile industry. My wife left college to pursue her degree and became a journalist for a daily newspaper. Anyone notice a trend?

All of these industries are dead or dying in this country. At the time, all of us entered those industries when they were all thriving and the bedrock of the economy with no sight of ever disappearing. Things sure have changed for each of those.

What are the industries today that are going strong, feel solid, and are the bedrock of the economy? Where will they be in 10 years? Who ever expected the auto industry to be on life support? What about the financial community in dire need of artificial support to prevent its collapse?

How are you preparing for the rapidly shifting business environment? How are you working to keep your industry vibrant? How much time are you spending on your leadership vision for your organization? You need to detect what changes are necessary to keep your organization thriving, before those changes are demanded just to survive.

What do you want your business to look like in 10 years? How are you researching and preparing now for what happens then?
